Ding dong! A mysterious box arrives at your doorstep, and inside it is a cute green alien named "Om Nom." Om Nom has only one request from you: Candy! Except there's a problem: all the candy is tied to ropes. Cut the ropes to make the candy fall in Om Nom's mouth in these hit physics-based puzzle games.
While all Cut the Rope games are different, the premise remains the same. The candy is tied to a bunch of ropes, and you must cut the ropes in a specific order to make the candy fall into Om Nom's mouth. The levels have lots of helpful tools such as air cushions to accomplish this, and also lots of enemies like spiders that will steal the candy from Om Nom!
Levels in Cut the Rope games often feature three stars which can be collected by touching them with the candy. These stars are placed in tricky places so some out of the box thinking is required for them! Cut the Rope games usually start off fairly easy, introducing you to new mechanics and such. But after a while, the difficulty ramps up!
There are lots of different Cut the Rope games, five in total. Each of them have new gimmicks and features that set them apart from their predecessors. These include Cut the Rope, Cut the Rope Experiments, Cut the Rope Time Travel, Cut the Rope 2, and Cut the Rope Magic.
The original Cut the Rope game, released in 2010, instantly became a hit because of its adding gameplay. It features the original rope-cutting puzzles that take place in a variety of different boxes, such as the Cardboard Box and the Magic Box. Cut the Rope still remains a popular game to this day due to the timeless mechanics and fun gameplay loop!
A year after the original, a spinoff was released: Cut the Rope Experiments. The game is similar to the first, but has new gameplay elements like suction cups, rope guns, and water that add variety to the puzzles. Oh, and there's also The Professor who narrates everything is his crazy voice!
In 2013, yet another spinoff was launched. Cut the Rope Time Travel sees Om Nom going back in time to meet his ancestors. This time, there are two candies, and each one must be fed to both Om Nom and his ancestor.
Shortly after Time Travel, Cut the Rope 2 was released and acted as a grand remake with new graphics and characters. This time, Om Nom is out of his box and exploring the outside world. But not without the help of his friends that will help guide Om Nom to getting the candy!
The last Cut the Rope game, Cut the Rope Magic, was released in 2015. It was yet another remake with gorgeous visuals and gradual shading which gave the game a "3D"-ish look. Often regarded as the best of the five, Cut the Rope Magic has Om Nom performing spells to transform into mythical creatures like dragons and spirits.
Even though there are no more Cut the Rope games, Om Nom and his friends still comes back in other games! There are lots of Om Nom games of different genres, some of which include:
- Om Nom Run: Om Nom is out of the box and on the streets in this 3D arcade game! Run through three lanes of traffic and swipe to avoid trains, buses, walls, toxic pits, and other enemies! Unlock cool new characters with special abilities and race through the maps in Om Nom Run!
- Om Nom Connect: play fun matching puzzles featuring Om Nom! Even though he isn't in his box any longer, he is still providing challenging puzzles for you to play!
- Om Nom Bounce (Coming Soon): the evil spider wizard kidnapped your friends! Get them back by shooting bouncy candy at enemies in this puzzle/casual game featuring Om Nom.
Cut the Rope games are developed by Zeptolab, which originally started as an indie company with just two people. Since then they expanded and moved their headquarters to Barcelona, Spain. They are most known for their Cut the Rope games, as well as several other titles like King of Thieves and Pudding Monsters.
