Duck Life 1: Origin

About this game

Go back to where it all started in Duck Life 1: Origins. In the very first Duck Life game, you own a huge farm and make tons of money, when one day a tornado comes and destroys everything. All that survives is a single duck egg. Train this duckling into a racing duck and earn enough money to rebuild the farm!

Duck Life started off as this simple Flash game. Over time, it grew to a huge success and spawned numerous sequels. To this day, the series is a decade and a half years old and the ninth Duck Life game is on track to release on Steam. That's one popular duck!

How to Play Duck Life 1: Origins

Duck Life is a very easy game to get the grasp of. It offers a fun and relaxing gameplay experience to calm you down. To win the game, you must beat other ducks in a series of races. But before you get to that, you have to train up your three skills: running, flying, and swimming. For each of the training categories, there is a minigame that you play to increase your skill level.

For the running training, you simply have to press space to jump over the balls rolling toward you. For flying training, use the left arrow to fly upward and the right arrow to fly downward. Go as far as possible and collect as many coins as you can before time runs out.

Lastly, the swimming minigame is the most complex. As you swim in a body of water, you will come across many obstacles. These can include rocks, islands, boats, ships, and even icebergs. Depending on the obstacle, you either need to jump over it or swim under it. To jump, use the up arrow key, to swim underneath press the down arrow key. Keep up with your speed, you can adjust your horizontal position with the left and right arrow keys.

There are a few other things to keep in mind before starting the races. Firstly, you have to make sure you have a high energy level, otherwise your little ducky might collapse! Feed your duck energy seeds of super energy seeds (the purple ones) to make your duck stronger. You have to buy these in the shop with coins, which are earned via minigames and winning races.

Customize Your Duck

If you have enough coins saved up in your bank, you can opt to customize your duck and make him or her unique! You can change the color to a vibrant red or a cool blue. Put a hat on your duck to make it more stylish, from a goofy propeller hat to purple spiky hair.

A Humble Beginning

Duck Life 1: Origins (originally called Duck Life back then) was released in 2007 and was a fairly simple game. Despite that, it blew up in popularity and it's not hard to see why. Shortly after, we got Duck Life 2 with a new skill: climbing. After that, Duck Life 3 released. Duck Life 3 was a huge improvement at the time. Instead of training a single duck, you can now level up and evolve your duck to compete in different leagues and locations.

Perhaps the biggest game changer was Duck Life 4, which removed the evolution system but added six worlds and numerous different training minigames. To this day, Duck Life 4 is still known as one of the best Duck Life games there are.

Duck Life continued to evolve into many different genres after Duck Life 4, but it still went back to its roots in Duck Life 8: Adventure. The eighth addition of Duck Life sees a huge open world where the player controls a duck and explores the duck society.
