Red Ball 1

About this game

Welcome to the very original Red Ball game! It might look simple, but it's full of spikes, thorns, moving platforms, cars, and even a ninja on the bridge. Red Ball is a short but difficult game that is sure to challenge your platforming skills.

How to Play Red Ball

Red Ball 1 Consists of 12 unique levels. The goal in each one is to navigate to the end and touch the finishing flag. Along the way, there are many tinier flags. These small flags are checkpoints. If you fail a level, you will respawn at the last checkpoint you activated.

Moving the Red Ball is fairly straightforward. Use the left and right arrow keys to move sideways, and use the up arrow key to jump. Unfortunately, Red Ball 1 was originally made in Flash Player, at a time when mobile devices did not support Flash. Due to this, Red Ball 1 is currently unplayable on mobile devices.

If you ever find yourself stuck or can't progress further, reset the level at any time using the "R" key.

Many Obstacles and Levels

Red Ball 1 features a total of 12 tricky levels. These levels will have a variety of gimmicks, such as spikes that pop the red ball. Jump over these with the up arrow key. Other levels have moving platforms. Time your jumps appropriately to make sure you don't fall out of the map.

There are some boxes along the way. Triggering a colored box will cause an object outlined in the respective color to disappear. This adds a bit of puzzle-solving and challenge to Red Ball. If you trigger the boxes at the wrong time, you might fall off the platform or find that you can no longer progress (this is where the reset button comes in handy!)

History of Red Ball

Red Ball was created entirely by Evgeniy "Eugene" Fedoseev. It was one of his very first games and he finished it in under one week. The game was simple, yet addictive. The game was picked up and sponsored by King.com, which hosted an additional 5 bonus levels exclusively on their website.

Since then, King.com rebranded and removed all instances of Red Ball from their website, leaving Red Ball without a home. Thankfully, many other websites picked up the game, although the 5 King.com bonus levels were never playable.

Unfortunately, the game was created on Adobe Flash Player, which was the most popular tool for creating web games at the time. Adobe shut down Flash Player in early 2020, making thousands of web games unplayable. Thankfully, many Flash games have been brought back either through emulation or remakes in the more modern HTML5 programming language.

Red Ball 1 is one of the games that now work again using emulation. Red Ball 1 was added as an emulated Flash game on Gilect Play as of April 24th, 2024. The full game remains playable in its entirety.
