Micro Manager is attempting to take control of the planet Appelmoeshapje, and is turning all of its inhabitants against Appel! Play as the hero Appel and help him navigate through nine tricky levels to take back control of the planet!
Appel is a fun platformer game! Maneuver Appel using the WASD or arrow keys. Use the up arrow or W to jump and stick on surfaces. Be careful, you won't be able to move sideways while sticking to a surface. The longer you hold the jump key for, the higher up you can jump. To perform a wall jump, stick on a wall and press jump again. Use S or the down arrow key to crouch. Crouching can get you through tight spaces. Moving sideways is possible while crouching. You can even crouch while sticking on walls!
Appel isn't just a platformer, it's also an adventure! Micro Manager is desperate to gain the power of the golden apples. To do so, he takes control of the Appelmoeshapje planet, where our hero Appel lives. However, Micro Manager turned all its inhabitants and the entire planet against Appel! Take control of Appel and avoid danger to navigate to the end and take down the Micro Manager, saving Appelmoeshapje!
Appel was fully created and programmed by Griffpatch on the Scratch platform. He has over half a million followers on the platform and is most known for remaking mobile games such as Geometry Dash. In Griffpatch's bio, he states that he began programming as a child and continued programming well into adulthood. He is now a parent and a full-time Java programmer! Griffpatch also owns a YouTube channel where he uploads tutorials on how to make Scratch games!
Scratch is an open source platform that enables children to make games via block coding. Rather than having to type out all the code, users can drag blocks to tell the program what to do. However, just because Scratch is marketed toward children, doesn't mean it isn't a powerful tool! This very game was created on Scratch by Griffpatch!
Unfortunately, Scratch has its limitations. For example, it doesn't have a built in physics engine, which means that the physics for this platformer had to be build from scratch (no pun intended!) Scratch users such as Griffpatch have to overcome these problems by looking for workarounds.
You can subscribe to Griffpatch's YouTube channel, where he uploads Scratch tutorials. He even has videos that teach how to make a game just like this one! Anyone can sign up and begin making games on the Scratch platform for free!
Appel is already published on Scratch, however we decided to re-package it using Turbowarp. Turbowarp makes the game run at a smooth frame rate and speeds up the game, making it load faster!
