Badland is an absolutely gorgeous award-winning atmospheric side-scroller. It takes place in a beautiful forest right out of a fairy tale, and is filled with various inhabitants, trees, and flowers. But not everything is as it seems, something is terribly wrong.

Badland is a side scrolling game where the player takes control of one of the forest dwellers. Control the character simply by holding to fly up, and releasing to stop flying.
But it gets far more exciting than that. Along the way, there are various "power-ups" that can be equipped to make navigating levels easier (or harder, sometimes!) These can include powerups that make you shrink, grow, powerups that make you sticky, powerups that turn you into a ball, and more.
The forest dweller can't do much on his own, but there's strength in numbers: it has the ability to pick up clones. These clones sometimes needed in cases where there are two different routes, in which the clones can be split to go both ways. Other times, they could be used to push heavy objects that otherwise would block the path.
But not everything is magic and goodness. There are plenty of traps like sawblades and heavy rocks that could crush anything. Even if you have a large army of over thirty clones, something awful can happen and you're left behind with just a single forest dweller.
Badland has forty levels split into four parts of the day: Dawn, Noon, Dusk, and Night. The game gets darker and more unsettling the further you go throughout the day. Dawn starts with bright yellow levels, in a beautiful forest. By dusk, the sky goes red and everything gets more eerie. At night is when the forest gets really dangerous and goes all out to kill you. Something has gone terribly wrong with the forest...

Badland was made in 2013 by Frogmind, a team that, back then, was just made up of two people. Frogmind is based in Finland and to this day has a team of just 24 game developers and no managers, staying true to its indie roots. Badland was ported to web platforms by Gamepix.
